Louvered doors allow light to enter without providing visibility. You can let natural light in while restricting direct sightlines by adjusting the louver angle. This makes louvered doors more suitable than solid doors for semi-open areas like office partitions or service zones.

Louvered doors are usually lighter in weight, typically from 30% to 50% lighter than solid doors of the same material. This reduces your installation workload and hardware burden.

In addition, from a cost perspective, louvered doors usually consume less materials. So in large orders, you can take louvered doors to decrease its unit price 15% to 20% than that of solid doors.

Where Are Louvered Doors Commonly Used?

Louvered doors are often used in indoor or semi-enclosed spaces that require ventilation, such as wardrobes, storage rooms, mechanical rooms, laundry areas and service areas.

When Are Louvered Doors Not Recommended?

Due to the accumulation of dust on the blinds, higher maintenance requirements are imposed. So louvered doors are usually not suitable for use in dusty or smoke-prone environments.

Yes. Louvered doors could affect privacy, but the extent depends on the angle of the louvers and the choice of materials.

For example, if you take adjustable louvered doors and set the angle between 15° and 30°, it can block direct views while still allowing light. For fixed blinds, you can enhance privacy by using frosted inserts or high-density wooden blinds.

If your project requires both ventilation and a certain degree of sound control, you may consider a double-layer louver structure with acoustic filling or additional peripheral sealing, all of which can enhance performance by 5 to 10 decibels. Even so, its performance cannot be compared with that of solid doors.

Do The Blinds Comply with Fire Protection Regulations?

Standard louvered doors do not automatically meet the fire protection grade requirements.

Metal louvered doors themselves have strong flame retardancy. When combined with certified fire-rated frames and seals, it can achieve Class A fire resistance and are suitable for auxiliary fire corridor areas. 

Wooden and medium-density fiberboard (MDF) louvers need to undergo flame-retardant impregnation treatment to meet B1 flame-retardant standards so that you can apply it in non-evacuation passages such as offices and commercial areas.

It is worth noting that untreated PVC or standard wooden louvers should not be used in areas with severe fires.

How Long Do Louvered Doors Typically Last?

Under normal usage conditions which means in a dry and well-ventilated environment, indoor louvered doors can usually be used for 10 to 20 years.

Properly treated metal louvers can have a service life of over 20 years, especially in equipment or public utility fields.

Louvered doors are typically made of medium-density fiberboard (MDF), solid wood, aluminum, steel, veneered panels and composite structures. Typical structures include reinforced MDF core materials, solid wood frames or hybrid composite material designs to balance its stability and cost.

The commonly used wood types for wooden louvered doors include paint-grade wood, pine, ash, soft maple, red oak and Sapele. If you need dyeing, it is recommended to choose solid wood as it can provide you more uniform color absorption. What Louver Angles Are Commonly Used in Louvered Doors?

If your project values privacy, the angle between 15° and 30° can reduce airflow and can limit direct line of sight. Steeper angles such as 60° – 90° are more often used for external or large window sunlight control. During the production process, you can control surface quality through precise machining, multi-stage grinding and consistent coating application.  It is usual to carry out a thorough cleaning and fine sanding at first to remove fiber protrusions and processing marks. Then, depending on the material, you can apply a specified coating, such as semi-gloss paint or powder coating for a thin and even coating. After completion, each batch will undergo post-inspection, including coating thickness measurement, adhesion test, gloss check and visual inspection of defects.
